DuPage CVB Joins Illinois Bureau of Tourism In Kicking Off Major Summer Tourism Promotion

Posted on 06/13/08

The DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) recently sponsored a full page in Illinois Bureau of Tourism’s summer newspaper insert in partnership with five DuPage communities – Elmhurst, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, Westmont and Willowbrook – to help kick off its summer travel season campaign. DuPage County is second only to Cook County in generating Illinois tourism revenue. Travelers contributed $2.3 billion to the county’s economy in 2007. The “Illinois Getaway Guide” inserts were distributed to over 1.1 million households via major newspapers. Sixty-five percent of the distribution was targeted to Illinois households in an effort to encourage residents to travel within the state. The remaining distribution was divided among targeted markets in the surrounding states of Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky. Electronic companion components include two email campaigns to travelers requesting travel planning assistance along with a four-month Internet presence on the consumer travel planning web site, VacationFun.com. The site also drives traffic to DiscoverDuPage.com, the official DuPage CVB web site for travel information and planning. “We’re confident that this type of target market-focused campaign can drive large volumes of visitor spending to DuPage County,” said CVB Executive Director Skip Strittmatter. “We also believe that Internet presence such as the campaign’s 120-day stint on VacationFun.com is a critical component of any destination promotion.” The print and electronic components of the campaign, along with market research, are being designed and coordinated by Madden Media. About DuPage County and the DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau

DuPage County is the second most populous county in Illinois after Cook County, which borders it to the north and east. Together, the two counties account for half of the state’s population. One of the nation’s wealthiest counties, DuPage is rich in many types of commerce and is second only to Cook in tourism revenue. With its well-developed highway and mass transit system, DuPage is easily accessible from both O’Hare and Midway Airports as well as the City of Chicago, a small portion of which and primarily a part of O’Hare Airport, is located within DuPage County limits.

The DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s mission is to actively market DuPage County to individual travelers and meeting/event planners as an enticing destination for both business and leisure travel in order to enhance the economic fiber of the county. Established through the efforts of a coalition of DuPage area hotel executives and business representatives in 1987, the DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau was formally certified in 1989 by the State of Illinois as the official agency to promote the county’s multi-billion dollar tourism industry and market DuPage County as a destination for visitors, conventions and economic development.
