DuPage CVB Awarded Top Marketing Honors at 2008 IL Governor's Conference

Posted on 02/21/08

Oak Brook, IL - The 2008 Illinois Governor’s Conference on Tourism was held last week in Springfield. Marketing awards are given each year at this event in a variety of categories for exemplary work in promoting Illinois tourism.

This year, the DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau earned the highly coveted Governor’s First Place Award for their Meeting Planners Guide in the category for media kits, meeting planning and group tour guides for organizations with an operating budget over $700,000.

DuPage’s Executive Director Skip Strittmatter was “thrilled and honored to have received such recognition for a publication representing DuPage County and all that it has to offer.”

The piece was judged on several criteria, including meeting stated objectives, being appropriate for the intended audience, displaying a clear and well-organized message, exhibiting originality and creativity, and capturing the judges’ attention.

Illinois tourism is a strong and growing industry, with 36 state-certified Bureaus. DuPage County alone brought in over $2.3 billion in tourism in 2007.

The Governor’s Conference provides members of Illinois tourism organizations with opportunities to network with industry leaders, assists them in elevating their professional knowledge, and encourages them to work together to deliver the best possible experience to residents and visitors alike.

About DuPage County and the DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau

DuPage County is the second most populous county in Illinois after Cook County, which borders it to the north and east. Together, the two counties account for half of the state’s population. One of the nation’s wealthiest counties, DuPage is rich in many types of commerce and is second only to Cook in tourism revenue. With its well-developed highway and mass transit system, DuPage is easily accessible from both O’Hare and Midway Airports as well as the City of Chicago, a small portion of which and primarily a part of O’Hare Airport, is located within DuPage County limits.

The DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s mission is to actively market DuPage County to individual travelers and meeting/event planners as an enticing destination for both business and leisure travel in order to enhance the economic fiber of the county. Established through the efforts of a coalition of DuPage area hotel executives and business representatives in 1987, the DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau was formally certified in 1989 by the State of Illinois as the official agency to promote the county’s multi-billion dollar tourism industry and market DuPage County as a destination for visitors, conventions and economic development.
